New Beginnings Club

The New Beginnings Club is focused on helping students, new to the United States, acclimate to the educational and social system of the country.

Targeted Grade Level(s): 1-5 

Start date: October 14, 2025 

Days and Times meetings will be held : Grades 1-2   will meet Tuesdays 7:45a.m - 8:20  am /  Grades 3-5  will meet Fridays 7:45 am to 8:20 am.

Focus of SEL: To help students, new to the United States, acclimate to the educational and social system of the United States. 

Agenda: 

1. Explain the importance of an education. The importance of attendance
2. Discuss the school daily schedule( arrival time, departure, connection, STEM, homework,  etc..) and expectations. 
3. Invite speakers(Parents, Students in good standing, staff members and church members from various churches)come in and share their experiences of coming to this country. 
4. Invite community members from various sectors and entities (library, fire dept, doctors,  military, etc..) discuss their careers . 
5. Bonding games: we will invite a teacher, AP or Principal ,come and play a game( family feud,  1 minute conversation musical chairs, etc..). 
6. Discuss the various resources in their community( YMCA, Sports club, Library, parks, etc..) 
7. Discuss SEL topics using Character Strong Curriculum: Respect, Kindness, Responsibility, etc..

End of year project: A video where every child in the club will speak about their country of origin and things they enjoy about the U.S.A. Show video during morning announcements in May.
